Dads Birthday

Today is my dad’s birthday.  It’s also Pa’s birthday.  Happy Birthday to both of you.  I hope you both have a wonderful day.

The SgtMaj gave about seven hair cuts today.  All the companies brought in their command elements for a meeting so we had plenty of Marines walking around.  He started with a Marine that we spotted when we came out of the chow hall.  Then he told him to go find a Marine with the longest hair and bring him in.  So he did, and the cycle started.  He had them standing in line.  After a while, I went to the actual little barber shop (just an 8x8 wooden shack that we built) and there was a huge line outside of it.  They had all heard what was going on and decided they would get their hair cut by someone who gave them a choice instead of the SgtMaj special.  The SgtMaj only gives high and tights and cuts the top.  He messed up on two Marines and ended up shaving them completely bald.  News travels fast around the camp.

I’m going to start cardio tomorrow morning.  I’m just going to get on the elliptical machine and take it easy.  I’m pretty sure I’m ready for it.  Today was the first day that I have been able to button my pants all the way up.  So, that means the swelling has just about gone away.  A few more days and my belt will back at its old place.  I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LARRY!!! Michael, I printed off the picture of you and Santa and taped it on the wall for our family Christmas yesterday. You look great!! Is that the jacket you are suppose to wear on the INSIDE of some clothing???? We had a great time yesterday but Gloria had to leave early to go to work so that pretty much stunk. I want you and Britni and Schellee to be with us at Christmastime!!!! We are going to climb Pinnacle today. Finally the sun is shining again and it is beautiful outside!!! LOVE YOU AND THINK OF YOU ALWAYS!!! Melanie

Michael,
Oby and I have lifted you (and all who are serving) up daily in our prayers. It made us feel really sad, to know so very many would not be home for Christmas with their family and friends. You are very fortunate to have as many friends as you do, and to have the family you have! I hope you had as good a Christmas as possible. Let me just say "Thanks" to you and all the others for your service to your country! We are so proud of you! We had a nice Christmas at Clayton's house. Jason had us over at his house for Thanksgiving. I can no longer do the cooking for big meals, so the boys and their wives were good enough to each take a holiday and everyone meet at that persons house. It has been a lifesaver for me. Landmark Church had a "family gathering" Sunday at 10:00. The bell ringers (I like to call them the ding-a-lings) played their hand bells, and also their chimes. It was beautiful! We have a group of about 10 people who sing together, and they sang "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem". DeHaan read the Christmas story to all children who were gathered around his feet as he sat on the steps to the stage. We had some congregational singing of Christmas songs as well. It just seemed like you could just feel the presence of God, right their in the middle of us!! So much so, that it almost made the hair on your arms stand up! It was great! Afterwards, we went to see Mr. Truitt and Mrs. Jerri. Mr. Truitt looked much better than he did the last time I saw him. We also got to see Larry and Bonnie. I better go and not bore you anymore than you already are. Stay safe, and we look forward to the day when you can come home for good. Love, Oby and Carolyn Smith

Inquiring minds want to know!
